Quadrangle , CNN Tower , Toronto
Canadian Architecture firm Quadrangle proposed a Parasitical condo design for the exterior of the CNN Tower. They were inspired by the 1993 novel virtual light which reimagines a future world after an earthquake in which a damaged bridge turns in to a suspended shanty town. The pre fabricated units would be assembled off site then transported and fixed to the exterior fittings .
What drew me most to the project was the haphazard aspect of the building. The scattered ununiformed pod like structures attached to the exterior create a complex web of squares and rectangles morphing a plain tower in to a more abstract and interesting structure. I like the use of colour tones the firm kept the same shades of beige making the pods blend into the existing building. The glass panelling highlights the pods form in a non obnoxious way
