About Me

I am currently completing my Masters in Interior Design at the University of Central Lancashire. The area I am basing my Masters Project on is commercial design in a restaurant setting focusing on the reuse of traditional spaces to breathe new life into old under used buildings.

I believe a space to should benefit it’s user and offer a physical and physiological use. A thread throughout my project is the physiology behind materiality and form. As designers we need to be innovative to create new ways for users to interact within a space and encourage people to interact with each other. Nowadays we are all so consumed with technology and desensitised to what’s going on around us. Food is the perfect vehicle for communication that has no barrier restaurants and gathering spaces are the locations that bring people together. We can learn so much from each other whether that be skills, experiences or knowledge about other cultures.

My masters project is entitled ‘Collective’ which is a communal dining and market space located within a grade 2* listed church in Preston.  Universities are a prime example of locations that multiple nationalities and people from all walks of like gather and connect making the site a perfect location for a communal based restaurant. As a county we a wide mix of people something we should be proud of design should reflect this.

This is why I would like to work in a multi disciplinary company to enable me to work alongside multiple areas of design. I believe we can all learn from one another to enable us to develop as people and designers making the most innovative and beneficial projects for people within the uk and elsewhere. I want to be able to be part of a team that makes spaces that can affect a persons daily life and wellbeing similar to company’s such as DesignLSM, Faber Design and unit 3 Design Studio. These companies combine various disciplines to create commercial projects for a wide variations of clients national and internationally.
